Case synopsis:

Vicky Walton, 32, was found unconscious at a flat in Belsize Park on 29 June 2016.

Paramedics were called by the male resident of the address in Malden Road at 10.42pm.

Vicky, from Camden, was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died at 10.15am on 30 June. The initial postmortem was inconclusive.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command launched a murder investigation and appealed for witnesses and information. Two people were arrested.

An inquest at St Pancras Coroner's Court on 2 August 2017 returned a verdict of natural causes due to drug-related ill health and unexplained head and spleen injuries.

The court heard Vicky Walton was a chronic user of heroin and cocaine.

According to the male resident of the flat, she arrived there claiming she had been attacked by a female friend. He claimed he looked after her but woke up to find she was not breathing. The female friend gave a statement to police denying she caused the injuries.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes told the inquest that the Crown Prosecution Service decided that there was insufficient evidence for a manslaughter prosecution.

Anyone with information that may assist police is asked to call the incident room on 020 8345 1570 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
