Case synopsis:

Fourteen year-old Jaden Moodie was stabbed to death in Leyton on 8 January 2019.

He was driving a moped when he was struck by a black Mercedes B Class in Bickley Road at around 6.30pm.

Detectives believed there were five men in the car and three of them got out and stabbed Jaden before leaving in the same vehicle.

Jaden was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at 7.09pm.

Detectives launched a murder investigation and said they were treating the incident as a "targeted attack".

The Mercedes was recovered in the Carlisle Road area of Leyton on 9 January.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Soole, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, who leads the investigation, said: "Everything we know so far points to the fact that this appears to be a targeted attack and those who carried it out had only one objective which was to inflict fatal injuries on Jaden.

"We continue to investigate why Jaden was singled out and retain an open mind at this time.

"My team is working tirelessly to apprehend those responsible for this cowardly attack and I would appeal to anyone who has information that could assist this investigation to come forward and speak to police or Crimestoppers."

Jaden's family said in a statement: "He had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone, especially his family. He will be sincerely missed.

"Jaden was a 14-year-old minor who had his whole life ahead of him. It should never have been viciously taken from him.

"It was very distressing that the majority of reports about Jaden mentioned London gangs and I would like to stress that Jaden had recently moved from Nottingham to London and had absolutely no affiliation with gangs.

"The focus needs to be on the fact that he has been brutally murdered in cold blood and deserves a fair chance at justice, as much as anyone else in this situation.

"If there are people in our streets that are capable of killing a 14-year-old child then no one is safe and they need to be caught and brought to justice. If anyone has any information regarding the incident, please come forward and help us get justice for Jaden as no one deserves to die in that horrific way.

"We take this opportunity to ask people to respect our family's privacy at this difficult time. Thank you"
