Case synopsis:

Katrina Makunova, 17, was fatally stabbed in the chest during a fight with her boyfriend on 12 July 2018.

Police and paramedics were called to the incident at a residential address on Brisbane Street, Camberwell, at 12.16pm.

Ms Makunova was pronounced dead at the scene at 1.02pm. A post-mortem gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.

Oluwaseyi Dada, 21, of Brisbane Street, Camberwell, was arrested at the scene and charged with manslaughter on 13 July.

Dada pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Southwark Crown Court on 9 January 2019. He is due to be sentenced on 29 January.

The court heard Dada and Katrina had been in a relationship but social media posts found on the victim's phone revealed it had deteriorated and they were sending each other insults and "veiled threats".

They became involved in a fight after Katrina went to Dada's home at a block of flats on Brisbane Street.

During a struggle in the ground floor lobby, they both fell down and Katrina landed on her handbag, which contained a knife.

The 17cm-long knife pierced through the bag and into Katrina's chest.

Dada, who had attempted to give CPR to the victim, told police that he had caused Katrina to fall by grabbing her bag during the struggle.

Detective Inspector Domenica Catino of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "A young woman has lost her life and my thoughts are with her family and friends, who have been devastated by Katrina's death.

"This is another young person who has been killed as a result of a knife and we need our communities to work with the police to end this scourge."
