Case synopsis:

Jordan Douherty, 15, was stabbed to death after a birthday party in Romford on 23 June 2018.

Police were called to reports of a large fight at a community centre in Clockhouse Lane at around 9.05pm.

Jordan, from Grays, Essex, was found injured outside and treated at the scene by paramedics but was pronounced dead at 10.21pm.

A post mortem examination gave the cause of death as hypovolemic shock caused by a stab wound to the left ventricle of the heart. He had also been stabbed in the neck.

On 28 June 2018 a 16 year-old boy was charged with murder. He went on trial at the Old Bailey on 26 November 2018 and was convicted of murder on 20 December.

Two boys aged 16 and 17 were convicted to cause grievous bodily harm. William Nayya-Welly, 20, (30.03.98) of Shepherds Close, Romford, had previously admitted perverting the course of justice.

They all await sentence.

The court heard Jordan was attacked after attending a girl's 16th birthday party which was called off due to overcrowding when details were posted on social media.

He arrived at North Romford Community Centre on Clockhouse Lane about 15 minutes before everybody was asked to leave.

Jordan then became involved in a violent altercation with three youths outside - although police do not believe they were known to each other.

He was chased along Clock House Lane before being repeatedly kicked after he fell to the ground. The teenage killer then pulled out a knife and stabbed Jordan twice before handing the blade to Nayya-Welly, who hid it under the wheel of a parked car.

The knife was later recovered by police and DNA testing linked it to both Nayya-Welly and the teenage killer.

Detectives also identified the suspects from CCTV footage and witness accounts.

Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “It is unbelievable the celebration of a 16th birthday should lead to the death of a teenage boy. Jordan Douherty was stabbed to death for absolutely no reason while he lay helpless on the floor. There is not a modicum of justification for this brutal killing and my heart goes out to Jordan’s family, who have been devastated by his death. The heartache for the family is a sentence that lasts forever.

“Those who carry knives must understand this is not a game, there is not a reset button and you cannot erase the consequences of using a knife. Young men are spending the best years of their lives in prison, while the friends they sought to impress slowly forget about them. Young men should understand what a life sentence really is, being caged, missing out on life and being released into a world that has passed them by.”

Detectives still want to identify five people suspected of involvement in the attack on Jordan.
