Case synopsis:

Matthew Kitandwe, 18, was stabbed to death outside his home in Battersea on 21 June 2016.

He collapsed outside a block of flats in Wayford Street and police were called at around 4.16pm.

Matthew, a student at South Thames College who had played football for the Ugandan youth team, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5pm. The postmortem found the cause of death was stab injuries.

Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of murder but nobody has yet been charged.

A £10,000 reward is being offered by Crimestoppers for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

In June 2017 Detective Chief Inspector Sam Price, Homicide and Major Crime Command, renewed appeals for information.

He said: "A year on from the murder, we have found no evidence to suggest that Matthew was affiliated to gangs or to crime, and we have found nothing that indicates a motive for his murder. We need to speak to anyone who knows why Matthew was attacked and killed.

"This appears to have been a senseless attack on a young man and Matthew's family has been left devastated; they rightly deserve to know what led to his death.

"Matthew's mother was called to her injured son and had to watch him die in front of her. No parent should have to endure an ordeal like this and the fact that no one has been brought to account can only increase the family's anguish.

"I would ask anyone who has information to search their conscience and do what is right.

"If you know anything that can help bring justice for Matthew and his family, I would urge you to call, even if you might be scared. We can offer protection to anyone giving vital information".

Matthew's mother Rose said: "My son Matthew, you will be greatly missed. You were my best friend and the house feels empty without you. It is a traumatic time for all the family. You were much loved by everyone and have left a very big gap to fill. Please, please could anyone with any information contact the police, as we don’t want any other family to go through this."

Matthew's uncle James added: "Matthew was an excellent sportsman, who represented Wandsworth borough in athletics, Uganda U-17s in football and had recently been signed by Colliers Wood F.C. He was very popular, creating enduring friendships with everyone he came across and cared deeply for friends and family. He was funny with a mischievous sense of humour and, curious to know more about his family’s background and culture, went to Uganda for 18 months. He is so greatly missed."

Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8721 5054 or via 101. Alternatively, they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
