Human remains found in Eltham

Detectives launched a murder investigation after the discovery of human remains in the garden of a house in Eltham, south London.

The victim has been named as 18 year-old Stephen Ojerinola. Four men and a woman have so far been arrested on suspicion of murder and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

From the Met at 1.30pm November 21:

Officers attended a semi-detached house in Lynsted Gardens, Eltham, at approximately 09:45hrs on Sunday 20 November, to execute a search warrant.

During the search officers found human remains in the garden of the three-bedroomed property. We are unable to provide further information about the remains at this stage.

An investigation is being carried out by detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command led by Detective Chief Inspector John McFarlane and an incident room has been set up.

Four people, three women - one aged in her 60s and two in their 40s - and one man in his 40s have been arrested on suspicion of murder and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. One of the women in her 40s has been released on police bail pending further inquiries. The others remain in custody.

Police are carrying out inquiries in the area and excavation work is expected to last a number of days at the property.

We are unable to confirm the gender or provide further details about the deceased at this stage.

Update: Police say they have dug up the body of an adult male at the address. His identity remains unknown.

Detectives investigating the discovery of human remains in Eltham have unearthed the body of an adult male at the address in Lynsted Gardens, SE9.

A post mortem will take place at Greenwich Mortuary on Tuesday, 22 November.

The identity of the man is still unknown.

On Monday 21 November a 35 year old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He is currently in custody at a south London police station.

Update from Met police: 11.13pm, November 22:

A post mortem examination took place at Greenwich mortuary on Tuesday 22 November and gave the cause of death as stab wounds.

We are satisfied the victim is Stephen Ojerinola, 18 (27.02.93), of London. Next of kin are aware.
