Murder in Walthamstow

Detectives are investigating the suspicious death of 51 year-old Jeffrey Coombes at his home in Walthamstow.

Mr Coombes was found dead at the flat in Grove Road at around 9.30am on Sunday 14 July.

The postmortem has proved inconclusive.

 

Statement from the Met Police:

Police are appealing for information following the death of a man in Waltham Forest.

Officers were called at approx 0930hrs on Sunday, 14 July to a residential address on Grove Road, Walthamstow following concerns for the welfare of the resident. A man was found deceased within the flat.

While formal identification awaits, police believe the man is Jeffrey Coombes, 51 (04.11.61), the resident of the address.

An initial post-mortem examination proved inconclusive. We await further results.

The death is currently being treated as suspicious.

It is believed Jeffery had recently moved to the local area in June.

Detectives would like to speak with anyone who may have recently purchased a white 24" Bush HD television, or has knowledge of the TV, which is missing from the address.

Police are also appealing for anyone who knew Jeffrey or who had seen him in the weeks leading up to his death to contact them in the incident room on 020 8345 3862. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. 

UPDATE on 29 July: Detectives launch a murder investigation.

A murder investigation has been launched in Waltham Forest following the death of a man.

Officers were called at approximately 09:30hrs on Sunday 14 July to a residential address on Grove Road, Walthamstow following concerns for the welfare of the resident.

A man was found deceased within the flat.

While formal identification awaits, police believe the man is Jeffrey Coombes, 51 (4.11.61), the resident of the address.

A post-mortem at Walthamstow Mortuary today, Monday 29 July, gave cause of death as head and facial injuries

Mr Coombes had recently moved to the local area in late May. He previously lived in Sutton, South London and St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex.

Detectives would like to speak with anyone who may have recently purchased a white 24 inch Bush HD television, or has knowledge of the TV, which is missing from the address.

Also missing was a Nokia mobile phone, an Acer laptop, wallet with Velcro fastening and a set of house keys with two keys or possibly up to seven keys.

Police are also appealing for anyone who knew Mr Coombes or who had seen him in the weeks leading up to his death to contact them.

Investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector John Sandlin, of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "Mr Coombes was renovating his recently purchased property, it appears he has been killed whilst in the process of doing this. His family are devasted by what has happened to him. I would appeal to anyone who knows what has happened to Jefferey to contact us.

"Any information is vital in order to trace whoever is responsible for killing Mr Coombes."

Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Walthamstow arrested two men yesterday, Wednesday 31 July.

The men [A - 20-years and B - 50-years] have both been arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody in east London police station.
