- Larry Chaters, 68, died in hospital on 2 January. He had been admitted to hospital on 27 December 2024 after suffering injuries, including rib fractures and a collapsed lung, during an incident at his home in Cormont Road, Camberwell, in the London borough of Lambeth. His son Craig Chaters, 37 (03/10/87), also of Cormont Road, was was arrested on 2 January and charged with murder.
- Kelyan Bokassa, 14, was stabbed in a suspected gang-releated attack on a 472 bus in Woolwich Church Road, near the junction with the A205 South Circular Road, in Woolwich in the London borough of Greenwich, at around 2.27pm on 7 January. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3.23am and a postmortem examination revealed he had suffered at least eight wounds to the chest, arms and thighs. Two boys aged 15 and 16 were arrested in Eltham on 15 January and charged with murder the following day. The suspects both pleaded guilty to murder on 23 May and were later sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 15 years and 10 months before parole. The Old Bailey heard Kelyan had boarded the bus to go to an appointment at the Youth Justice Centre in Woolwich. He sat on the back seat on the top knife and was carrying a knife in the waistband of his trousers. Around 20 minutes later, the two teenagers got on the bus with machetes hidden within their clothing. They walked towards Kelyan, pulled out their knives and stabbed him without saying a word. CCTV footage on the bus revealed the attack lasted around 14 seconds as the killers thrust the knives at Kelyan a total of 27 times. Kelyan did not take out his own knife but tried to fend off the blows with his school bag. Passengers heard Kelyan screaming and shouting “Help, help, I’ve been stabbed.” The killers got out of the bus when it stopped at Woolwich Ferry. Meanwhile Kelyan collapsed in the aisle of the top deck and was heard to say “I want my mum”. He was unconscious by the time police arrived at the scene after being flagged down by members of the public. The suspects were later identified from CCTV footage, which revealed that one of them smiled as he spotted Kelyan on the bus. Further footage showed them running towards the Thames after the attack, still holding the knives. One of the weapons was later recovered from the river by police. Both attackers had a previous conviction for possession of a knife and the court heard the younger suspect was involved in drug dealing and was linked to the Woolwich Dockyard Gang. DCI Sarah Lee said: “The harsh reality in London is that violence disproportionately affects young black men and boys. The fact we’re seeing so many teenagers like Kelyan die should be at the forefront of the minds of every politician, every policy maker and everyone who wants better for children growing up in London. Without this collective effort, we won’t be able to tackle knife crime in its entirety.” Kelyan’s mother Marie said: “To the young people who carry knives, I beg you to stop, before you raise that blade, think of your own mother, think of the mothers who will cry every night like I do, who will scream into her pillow, who will walk past her child’s empty room and collapse with grief. Don’t let a moment of anger steal your future. Don’t let the streets raise you in a way your mother never would. Knife crime is not just statistics to us, its caskets, flowers, funerals. Our children being buried before their parents.”

The Old Bailey heard Victoria had invited Adoum to stay with her at the flat three days before the attack, after meeting him at a homeless shelter. DCI Matt Tenby, who led the Met Police investigation, said: “It is a tragedy that she was killed by Adoum after offering him a place to stay and showing him kindness during his time of need. Victoria deserved better.”

Police were called at 10.30pm after he walked into the Grosvenor pub in Oaklands Road with several stab wounds. He died at the scene. DCI Alison Foxwell said: “We urge anyone with information to contact us urgently. There may also be CCTV, ring doorbell or dash cam footage which may be relevant to the investigation. We urge anybody who was in the area to check their footage from between 20.30hrs and 22.30hrs on Monday, 10 February, and to notify the police if they believe they have captured anything which may assist our investigation.” Dariusz’s family said in a statement: “Dariusz, known for his boundless empathy and loving spirit for people and animals, touched everyone he met with his kindness and compassion. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved. All three pleaded guilty to manslaughter at the Old Bailey on 12 June. They await sentence. Police said one of the girls filmed the attack on her mobile phone. DI Devan Taylor said: “The young defendants have now accepted they were responsible for the killing of Mr Rivero, in what was a senseless and completely out of the blue attack on a lone elderly man. The age of the defendants adds to the devastating nature of this incident and they will now have to deal with the enormity of their actions.”
- Ana Maria Murariu, 45, was found with stab wounds at her home in Jubilee Road, Perivale, Ealing, after one of her children living at the house called 999 at 1.40am on 28 February. Nica was convicted of murder on 16 September 2025 following a trial at Southwark Crown Court and later sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 21 years before parole. The court heard Ana was the victim of domestic abuse during a long, toxic relationship with her husband, who appeared to be believe that his wife was having an affair. Police had previously been called to the house in April 2023, when he threatened his wife with a knife and told her that ‘this relationship will end with one of us being in the grave’, but he was not charged. During the attack Nica stabbed his wife 12 times. Their two eldest children, aged 26 and 21, were woken by their mother’s screams and found her lying injured on the living room floor. The court heard Nica was a Romanian national who had indefinite leave to remain in the UK and was a director of a company. Detective Inspector Richard Kempshall, who led the investigation, said: “This conviction will not return a mother to her children, and it will not take away the pain felt by this family. I hope however that it serves as a starting point for their recovery. They have shown incredible strength in the most difficult of times. Ana Maria was a victim of domestic violence in a toxic relationship, which has sadly resulted in her death. It is our hope that anyone else suffering such violence may consider reaching out and asking for help when they hear of Ana Maria’s story.”

In June 2025 the Metropolitan Police said the shooting was believed to be a case of mistaken identity and that the killers set out to hurt someone else in a “pre-meditated” attack. Mahad had spent the evening with a friend at their home before going outside to breaking their fast. The suspects drove up in a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander and opened fire, hitting Mahad several times. The car was found burnt out in Runcorn Close, Tottenham Hale, on the morning of 21 March. Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford, leading the Met’s investigation, said: “This tragic event, and Mahad’s death, has had a profound impact on the community and all those who loved him. Someone out there knows what happened. And that person, or people, must come forward. We are interested in hearing from those who saw anything suspicious in Waverley Road, Tottenham on the night of Thursday, 20 March, or witnessed a silver Mitsubishi Outlander, nearby just before 20:45hrs. This car was stolen and used to drive the suspects to and from the scene.” Mahad’s youngest sister said: “To stay silent is to be complicit. To stay silent is to let a grieving mother suffer in confusion. To stay silent is to let a little boy grow up not knowing what happened to his father. If you know something and you haven’t come forward, please think about that. Think about a family that cannot begin to heal because the truth is still hiding in the shadows. My brother deserves better. He deserves justice.”

I am particularly keen to trace a taxi driver who drove Pepita to the address in Reynardson Road in August 2024 and witnessed Pepita struggling to lift building supplies that she had bought. We believe the driver was concerned about her welfare and may have recorded Pepita on their mobile phone.”

I’ve recorded 70 homicides by knife in NYC so far this year — although the real number will probably be closer to 75. The recent drop in homicides over there is down to fewer shootings while here in London it’s down to fewer knife deaths (I don’t know what the numbers are for non-fatal stabbings). I really hope this decline persists although I fear there’ll be some kind of statistical rebalancing to come. Let’s hope not. I also don’t think the Met has much/anything to do with this year’s decline — whereas I’d wager the NYPD’s tactics have affected New York’s numbers (more of a hunch).
Without CCTV what would the
Police do now days they can’t resolve
A murder without them . Now
a murder can take place on a street
and a person can get away with it
Providing there is no CCTV .
Murders were resolved in the 1980s
And 90s without cctv but why not now .
What do you mean exactly? Homicides are still mostly resolved with a conviction. Some take longer than others but most perps are apprehended pretty quickly (ie, within a week or two).
What happened at ponders end high this week
It must be very unusual for only 1 victim out of 12 homicides this year so far to be in the 18-30 age category, and the average age seems much higher than usual.
For anyone interested, this New York’s homicide data for January (my own recording).

It’s possible for London and NYC to have similar monthly totals (e.g., last August NYC saw 15 homicides while London saw 17 in July), but that kind of data is anomalous and down to NYC seeing a particularly low monthly total rather than London seeing so many (although it’s requires an above-average number for London too). For comparison, NYC has also seen 45-60 homicides in a single (usually summer) month in recent years.
You’ll notice NYC sees a high number/percentage of homicides by knife. That might surprise some people, especially given America’s association with guns. January’s gap won’t remain all year though. Eventually, gun homicides will take over. Other big cities, like Chicago, are almost exclusively gun (although still 30-40 a year). NYC only started seeing more homicides by gun each year in the 1980s. At a guess, NYC probably saw 400-700 homicides by knife in the late 1970s, 1980s and possibly early 1990s.
I’d be interested to know what Americans think about the fact we’ve only had 5 homicides in London this year so far, and we’re at 4th February at the moment, and London has a population of almost 10 millions. (One of the ones in this list was committed at the end of 2024).
I’d imagine most don’t have an opinion, but there’s definitely a cohort on Twitter who still believe London’s murder rate is — or at least was — higher than NYC’s. It never was. Define murder rate. What timeframe are you using.
The difference between UK cities and US cities is substantial.
Admittedly I’m cherry picking here, but in 2021 Chicago saw over 800 homicides, Philadelphia over 560, Houston over 500, NYC close to 500, and LA over 400. Smaller cities like Baltimore, Detroit and Memphis saw ~330.
And St Louis (the size of one London borough) saw 263 (55 in July alone). Other small(er) cities like New Orleans, Cleveland, Oakland, Washington DC and many others saw 100-200 (large drops since then though). The rates per capita drop when you enlarge for the metro populations, which is probably a fairer comparison with London, but on the other hand, even if you isolate London’s deadliest boroughs the rates aren’t close.
I’m always careful not to undermine violence in London because murder is such an egregious crime and knife crime is a stubborn problem here, but purely as a statistic, the city has a low murder/homicide rate (comparatively at least).
I wonder how low it can get in London. I wonder if sub 100 for consecutive years is possible. Sub 80 in a single year even.
I can’t see US cities getting lower than they’re trending towards now (or the late 2010s); but 20 years ago I’d never have thought NYC would see fewer than 300.
Knife crime across the UK seems to be lower for the first 3 months compared to the to last year. But saying that our media are very weary of saying the cause of a murder and use the words serious injury and assault. Being u have to wait till the court case. Am I the only one seeing this?
No you are not – though its even worse – they are removing information on the murderer…. when you google them try to find more information you get this at the bottom. Some results may have been removed under data protection law in Europe. Learn more.
Sir these are only UK London
Murders nothing to do with the
USA
Hiyah
With ai other technology, isnit possible, to murdermap the whole country?
Dave
It’s possible but it depends on what you want it to do.
A comprehensive version would require access to police data (but while the Met for example have their own stats page for homicides, nobody is named, and BTP and City of London don’t provide specific homicide stats on their website)
You could probably use AI to collect data on every murder mentioned on the internet (and sort/filter the results), with links to sources. The issues would include a potentially high error rate, requiring a lot of human editing. And not all cases would be monitored (which to be fair murdermap struggles with as well).
You missed this one Could you please update the records? Many thanks :

Thanks will keep tabs – not clear cut yet
Anti knife uk 2025 attempts to cover all fatal stabbings from across the UK. But like murder map, will never say it is every stabbing due to the media and time it takes to find incidents and names and ages.
